The Business Studies Department
Welcome to the Business Studies Department. In addition to the lessons we aim to provide additional opportunities and experiences for our pupils. We arrange visits, competitions and guest speakers on an annual basis. We have also had successes including – Winning the Sony Small Business Challenge and coming second for two years in row in the RCT Young Consumers Quiz Final.
We are a busy department with the aim of raising awareness of enterprise and it’s importance to our pupils.

Key Stage 4
Business Studies is both an interesting and useful topic to study. Pupils will have the opportunity to study a range of useful topics, which include:
Marketing e.g. how to attract buyers, best ways to promote a product, creating a brand image. • Finance – compiling basic accounts.
The role of people within the business – how best to manage and motivate your staff.
The role of business organizations within the economy and their effect on everday life
Location of business – how best to locate for business success and how to attract grants and other financial aid.
Key Stage 5
The AS/A (WJEC) course provides an excellent foundation to the further study of economics, business, accounting, law etc. During the year/two years, students will gain the opportunity to:
Analyse and research the economy as a system
Gain understanding of market mechanisms and different types of markets namely; oligopoly, monopoly and perfect competition.
Develop skills to manage finance and money
Develop enterprise skills by compiling a business plan
Gain opportunities to develop a range of skills required within the workplace and at Higher education
Develop key skills, namely; communication, application of number, working with others and information technology
Progression/Career Opportunities
Due to the wide ranging topics covered the course provides an excellent foundation to a career in Marketing, Accounting, Law, Business Management, Banking etc. The course provides excellent progression to Higher Education.
